HI5030 System Analysis and Design _Individual Assignment

Assignment Objective:
This assessment relates to the unit learning outcomes as in the Unit of Study Guide. This assessment
is designed to give students skills to explore the latest system analysis and design trends, challenges,
and future directions.
Topic and Instructions
Systems Analysis and Design (SAD) is undoubtedly a pillar in the field of Information Systems (IS). Some
researchers have even claimed that System Analysis and Design is the field that defines the Information
Systems discipline and is the core of information systems. The past decades have seen the development
of Structured System Analysis and Design methodologies and Object-Oriented Methodologies. In the
early 1990s, key players in the field collaborated to develop the Unified Modelling Language and the
Unified Process. Agile approaches followed, as did other dynamic methods. These approaches have still
been used in the development of contemporary information systems. At the same time, new approaches
such as DevOps and DevSecOps continue to emerge.
Agile software development methods(ASDMs) were created as a solution to the limitations of traditional
software development methods. Some of the most practised ASDMs approaches are eXtreme
Programming (XP), Scrum, Crystal, Adaptive Software Development (ASD), Lean software development,
Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), and Feature Driven Development (FDD). These ASDMs
have been used for various purposes in a range of settings, outside of traditional software development
contexts.
In this assessment, you need to produce a literature review for any ONE of the selected ASDM listed
below. You are required to review the adaptation practices of the selected ASDM and produce a review
report.
Select ONE (1) of the ASDM for your article from the following:
▪ eXtreme Programming (XP),
▪ Scrum,
▪ Crystal,
▪ Adaptive Software Development (ASD),
▪ Lean software development,
▪ Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM),
▪ Feature Driven Development (FDD).
You need to search in the literature and find at least ten (10) academic research papers (references)
related to this topic. Academic papers can be found in ProQuest or Google Scholar. ProQuest login
instructions can be found below. A draft of the review paper (key points/headings) will be submitted
initially (refer the draft due date) whereby students can receive feedback. Then students should submit
the final research paper in the Blackboard by the last week of the trimester (refer the draft due date).

The report submission structure is as follows:
You need to submit your report in Week 13.

  1. Standard Cover Page
  2. Abstract
  3. Introduction
  4. Literature Review
    a) Overview of the selected ASDM and background
    b) Characteristics of the selected ASDM and Implementation approaches
    c) System Analysis and design approach of the Selected ASDM
    d) Strengths, and Weaknesses of the selected ASDM
  5. Discussion
    a) Discuss the trends and future adaptations of the selected ASDM in modern
    information system contexts.
    b) Provide your views on how the selected ASDM could be further enhanced to suit
    modern technological requirements.
  6. Conclusion
Summarise your findings, consolidating and drawing attention to the main points of
    the report.
  7. Referencing
Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at
the end in a reference list using the Holmes Adapted Harvard referencing style.
